MITCHELL Smith is on the verge of bringing yet more silverware back to the family home after reaching the 2009 Clubs for Young People boxing final.

He swept aside Barnsley's Roy Anderson in Wakefield last Saturday to set up a Class 2, Under 50kg category final against Jimmy Dennard of London's Nemesis Boxing Club.

If he prevails he will be able to put his trophy alongside those of his younger brother Jez, 15, who was crowned national champion of his age group and class at the Royal Navy Schools Championships earlier this month.

In Saturday's semi final Mitchell dominated the first round, opening up a 4-1 lead. Anderson, a product of Manchester-based Jimmy Egans Boxing Academy, closed the gap to 6-4 in the second but Smith showed his class in the third to run out an 8-5 victor.
