HAYES and Yeading boss Nas Bashir believes Dan Wishart can fill the left-back spot for years to come after his impressive switch from striker.

The 19-year-old has come through the ranks as a promising forward with pace, but he played his second successive game in his new position when Hayes and Yeading beat Braintree Town 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Bashir brought in full-backs Curtis Wynter and Callum Morris to cover for the loss of long-term injury victim Dan Spence, but he appears to have found the answer to a problem with the emergence of Wishart (pictured).

"We decided in training to give him a go there and in the two games he has played in the position he has been excellent," said Bashir. "We need to do more work with him on his positional sense, but it looks like he has played there for five years.

"He enyoys playing there and I think he has a future in that position."

Hayes and Yeading make a quick return trip to Hampton and Richmond in Saturday's FA Trophy first round tie after their 2-1 Middlesex County Cup defeat at the same venue last weekend.

But Bashir believes Saturday can be different after their midweek confidence-booster in Essex.

"Every club goes a blip and it has even happened to Chelsea recently," added Bashir. "There is always a part in the season when you are affected by injuries and suspensions, but hopefully we have come through it now.

"No one thought this season was going to be easy. We are looking forward to Saturday and hopefully we can get a run going now moving into Christmas. We want to go as far as we can in the FA Trophy and after the performance and result the other night hopefully things will be different."
