Tonbridge Angels 1-1 Hayes & Yeading

MARK Bentley’s first goal of the season was not enough for Hayes & Yeading as they were pegged back by Tonbridge Angels this afternoon.

The former Gillingham midfielder headed home on the hour to give United the lead before Angels rallied to snatch a point through Rory Hill.

Top scorer Kudus Oyenuga returned to lead the line for the visitors after sitting out last weekend’s FA Trophy win at Eastleigh through suspension.

United were unfortunate not to go in with a healthy lead at the break as they laid siege to Lee Worgan’s goal in the first-half.

The Tonbridge shot-stopper was in fine form denying Callum Butcher, Dan Wishart, Luke Williams and Bentley with fine saves in the first period.

It was a quiet first 45 minutes for United keeper Brandon Hall at the other end until a flash point with Chris Piper resulted in a bit of handbags from the two teams.

Piper picked up a yellow card for his part in the incident and both sides trooped in at half-time with the match still goalless.

Angels came out with renewed purpose but it was Bentley who found the breakthrough as he headed home a pinpoint cross from Wishart.

The goal did not deter the hosts and they were rewarded for their persistence on when Tom Davis and George Purcell combined to set up Hill for the equaliser.

Substitute Olly Schulz thought he had won it for Tonbridge but his late effort was chalked off for offside and Hill crashed one against the woodwork at the death.
