RAFA Benitez and Pep Guardiola are the early favourites to replace Roberto Di Matteo as Chelsea boss.
Di Matteo was given the bullet this morning following a disastrous start to the defence of the club’s Champions League crown.
Chelsea were beaten 3-0 by Juventus last night and are in danger of becoming the first holders in the history of the competition to go out in the group phase.
Roman Abramovich has acted swiftly in dispensing the Italian and the bookies’ believe Spanish pair Benitez and Guardiola lead the way in the Blues’ search for a new boss.
A club statement revealed Chelsea ‘will be making an announcement shortly regarding a new first team manager’ and that could even happen within 24 hours.
Benitez was approached about the Chelsea job following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas but insisted he wanted the position on a permanent basis.
Guardiola is currently on a year-long sabbatical in New York with his family but is understood that he has been approached about replacing Di Matteo.
