BRENTFORD boss Uwe Rosler insists the club won't be held to ransom by Karleigh Osborne's wage demands.

The defender looks set to leave Griffin Park this month after rejecting a new improved one-year contract.

Rosler admits he would rather sell the centre-back during the transfer window than lose the player for nothing in the summer.

Osborne has urged the club to come back with another offer, but his manager insists the Bees won't bow to his wage demands.

He said: “We offered Karleigh a contract in December with a 30 per cent pay rise and we didn't hear anything for three weeks.

“We offered him the same as Sam Saunders and Gary Alexander; a one-year deal with an easy number of games to earn an extension. So, basically, a two-year contract.

“After that we heard back and his agent was asking for [a pay rise] that was miles away from what we offered.

“We have spoken to Karleigh. He said we haven't spoken to him, which isn't true, but we told his agent we couldn't give him what he's asking for.

“At the moment in time we can't give Karleigh Championship football because we are Brentford, eighth in League One.

“What Karleigh is asking for is too far apart. We've treated a player who's been with the club for 10 years with respect and it's important our supporters know that.”
