KEVIN O'Connor admits it will be the new year before he even thinks about pulling on the red and white stripes again.

The Brentford skipper has been sidelined since twisting his ankle badly against Basingstoke last month, and is still wearing a protective leg brace.

All of which came at the worst possible time for the Bees stalwart, who is stuck on 399 league appearances and faces a lengthy wait to chalk up number 400.

O'Connor said: “In hope to be out of the brace next week, but it will be a few more weeks at least before I'm even back training, and we're looking at the new year before I'm playing again.

“It was such a strange injury. There was no other player around me, I was just running for the ball and suddenly felt my ankle go pop. It's something I've never experienced before.

“It was a shame to get injured when I did, but I'm only concerned about pulling on the shirt again, whether it's game number four or 400.”
