BRENTFORD boss Andy Scott has thrown down the gauntlet to defender Karleigh Osborne to cement a regular starting spot.

A combination of injuries and suspensions meant the 22-year-old was given his first start in four months in Saturday's victory at Stockport .

And the Bees academy graduate repaid his boss with an impressive display as they kept their first clean sheet in six games.

But Scott has challenged Osborne to keep his shirt.

He said: "There’s never been any doubt that he can do it in one or two game spells.

"The question I’ve asked of him several times is can he do it consistently over a long spell of games.

"And it may be that he gets his opportunity now due to the injuries etc.

"I’ve never doubted his ability to do it on the odd occasion. And he’s got the ability, while mentally he’s shown a lot of strength."
