HAYES and Yeading boss Nas Bashir is looking forward to a run in the FA Trophy after his side booked their place in the first round.
United brushed aside Eastleigh at the weekend to set up an away tie at either Wealdstone or Corby Town a week on Saturday.
Those two sides meet tonight (Wednesday) and Bashir is confident of progressing in the competition after a confident performance against the Spitfires.
“Every game is important for us and hopefully we can have a good run in this competition,” he said. “I felt we were hard-done by in the FA Cup with the officials and sometimes you get repaid in different ways. The team is really kicking on and we had a few of our big hitters missing today. There is good competition for places.”
Bashir’s side were dealt an early blow when former Crystal Palace striker Alassane N’Diaye was forced off with a hamstring injury just 15 minutes into the clash.
Tobi Joseph took his place up front alongside Danny Wishart and the latter was the architect for the opener as he shrugged off a challenge and crossed for John Goddard to tap home.
Jerome Anderson missed an early chance but then showed he can finish with a fine low drive to double the advantage following excellent work in the left channel by Joseph.
United looked in total control but allowed the Spitfires a foot in the door as the linesman’s flag stayed down and Lee Peacock halved the deficit just before the break.
But Joseph restored the two-goal cushion shortly after the break and the influential Wishart produced a stunning late fourth to cap off a fine individual performance at the Silverlake.
