FORMER AFC Wimbledon youngster Huw Johnson is attracting interest from Hayes & Yeading.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Kingsmeadow and featured 11 times last season for the League Two club.

But Johnson did not pull on a Dons shirt after December and manager Neal Ardley decided to axe the midfielder as part of his summer cull last month.

Johnson still had a year left to run on his Wimbledon contract but had fallen down the pecking order and is believed to have appeared on United’s radar last season.

Tentative enquiries were made about a possible loan move in the closing stages of the campaign.

Johnson’s release at the end of May presented the club with their opportunity to follow up their interest and contact has been made with the youngster.

Able to operate in midfield or attack, Johnson would be Phil Babb’s second signing of the summer following his recruitment of Szymon Sidorowicz.

It is far from a done deal but United are still looking to replace captain Sam Cox, who has already confirmed he will be moving on to pastures new.

Tom Cadmore , the club’s record appearance holder, followed Cox out the door at Beaconsfield Road last week.

A reliable defender and a firm favourite with the fans, Cadmore pulled on the Hayes & Yeading shirt close to 250 times during his six seasons at the club.

He first joined United on a three-month loan deal from Wycombe Wanderers in August 2007 before making a permanent move after his release by the Chairboys.

Cadmore has re-located to Brighton for personal reasons and has joined big-spending Whitehawk, who have recently been re-named Brighton City.

The Hawks won promotion to Blue Square South last term and Cadmore will get a warm reception from the crowd when he faces his old club next season.

Kudus Oyenuga and Brandon Hall are also believed to have played their last games for Hayes & Yeading, but John Goddard has agreed in principal to remain next season.

The midfielder has yet to sign on the dotted line but is expected to put pen to paper when he returns from holiday.
