Uxbridge runner Nigel Levine played a key part in securing the silver medal for Great Britain in the 4x400m relay at the World Indoor Cross Country Championships in Poland on Sunday, writes Rob O'Connor.

Levine, who represents Winsor Slough Eton & Hounslow AC, took the final anchor leg for the team to help GB fend off the challenge posed by a strong Jamaica squad to finish a credible second with a time of 3:03:49 behind gold medallists the USA.

The success came after Levine had helped the team ease through the heats with a sterling time of 3:06:09 to squeeze ahead of Russia into first.

The WSEH athlete also performed bravely in the individual 400m event, coming in fourth in the semi-final with a time of 46:84 to miss out agonizingly on a place in the final and a shot at the podium.

That place was taken by third-place finisher Lalonde Gordon of Trinidad who pipped Levine into the final by hair’s breadth, after the Uxbridge man had qualified through the heats in third place.
