The focus switched from cross-country to the indoor season this weekend with the Middlesex Championships at Lee Valley - and Ealing Southall & Middlesex came away with 10 gold medals.

The championships started with the hurdles and Makeda Lewis was the first to strike gold with a narrow win in the U17 women's 60m event.

She followed that up with a comfortable win in the 200m, with Nadia Mills third. Mills ended the afternoon with a win in the 60m.

For the U17 men, Mali Lewis was the only gold medallist, thanks to a win in the 400m that he led from start to finish.

National champion Aaron Saunders was pipped in the 60m by the national 200m champion Jordan Arthur, but he remains top of the rankings. Latif Yusuf was a bronze medallist in the 200m.

Gabrielle Coveney and Hannah Pollak did battle twice in the U20 races. Coveney led all the way to win the 800m in 2:20.22 - an improvement of eight seconds over her previous best. Pollak won the silver medal.

They met again less than an hour later in the 400m, but this time they were both chasing the winner. Gabrielle finished second, Hannah third. But Gladis Bitulu was an impressive winner of the 200m and was only narrowly beaten in the 60m later in the afternoon. Matt Clampin was fourth in a fast U20s 400m race.

Tatjana Gibbons was third in the U15 girls' 200m with Lisa Khan in fourth. Gibbons then went one better in the 60m to grab the silver. For the boys, Alvin Angell won the 200m and added a bronze in the 60m.

The only senior woman from the club was Shereen Charles. After five years away from the sport, she cruised to victory in the 200m. Her afternoon was spoilt though when she missed the 60m after they moved forward the time of the race.

The end of the afternoon saw success for the senior men. Firstly Dan Bramble had an easy win in the long jump. Then in the 1,500m, Hussain Jama scorched to victory in 3:55.74 - four seconds up on his personal best. Phil York was fourth.

Ben McCallum was fifth in a fast 800m earlier in the afternoon and Lawrence Gittens was knocked out in the semi-finals of the 60m.

The previous day at Richmond Park, the senior men had taken part in the Hec Petersen Trophy. Although the club retained the trophy, the event was marred by the lead pack going off course.

Richard Tomlinson, Luke Nicholas and Chris Hepworth were following the lead runner when he ran off course. By the time they rejoined the main field they were well back.

Tomlinson worked his way back to fourth whilst Luke and Chris finished sixth and ninth. Andy Dodd came 11th.

Veterans Steve Plested and Ian Birch followed the correct course and ended up second and seventh respectively.

Eamon Bradley and Peter Turner completed the team in 13th and 14th.
