WEALDSTONE’S new favourite Britt Assombalonga says he will not be bullied by the Ryman Premier League’s hatchet-men.

The on-loan Watford striker has made himself an instant hit with Stones fans, who are already singing songs about the youngster on the terraces at the Vale.

Assombalonga, who struck twice in the 6-0 Middlesex Cup win at Enfield on Tuesday night to make it three goals since he joined Stones, has won the hearts of the Grosvenor Vale faithful with his determination not to be intimidated by the physical hurly-burly of non-league football.

The 19-year-old said: “It is psychological and your mindset has to be right.

“If I had come into a game thinking these are big guys then I am not going to play well, but if I have my head straight and tell myself to try and play my football and do what I do best then that’s different.

“So I’m not at all intimidated.”

Assombalonga, who knows Kurtney Brooks from his days at Watford, also believes a big part of his game is being a menace to defenders and helping his team defend from the front.

He added: “Pressing the defence is very much my kind of game. Never let their centre-back get any time on the ball because if you give them time on the ball they can distribute a pass.

“But if you are in their face their head is down and they often have to take another touch and another one.

“That is how I have played for a long time, get in their face, and then when you have the ball attack them and don’t give them time to think.”

A double from Conor Smith and goals from Alex Dyer, Scott Fitzgerald and Assombalonga’s two goals made it an easy passage into the last-eight of the Middlesex Senior Cup for Wealdstone at Enfield.
