WILL Antwi has signed an 18-month contract with AFC Wimbledon.

Antwi has made a big impression since arriving at Kingsmeadow as a free agent in September.

Sidelined through injury at present, Antwi has seen off competition from the likes of Pim Balkestein and Mat Mitchel-King for a regular place in the heart of the Dons defence.

The Chronicle revealed in October that Wimbledon had set Antwi the challenge of earning a contract with the League Two club by January.

And Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley has revealed the centre-back has been rewarded for his efforts with an 18-month contract.

He said: “Will has signed an 18-month deal with the club. I think he's deserved that because he's played well and again now we've got good competition for places. Hopefully it's a positive all round.”

Antwi has recently been suffering with a hip problem but a series of injections and manual treatment has eased the symptoms of the injury.

He was not fit enough for a place in the squad this afternoon's home draw with Burton but could return for Tuesday's trip to Port Vale.
