Chelsea Ladies have made it into the history books and clinched their first piece of major silverware by winning the SSE Women's FA Cup final.

The Blues women secured a 1-0 victory over Notts County Ladies at Wembley on Saturday afternoon (August 1) in front of a record crown of 30,701.

Ji So-Yun scored the first-half goal that propelled the west London team into the lead in the first Women's FA Cup final to be staged at the national stadium.

Chelsea Ladies have not yet been able to emulate the success of their male counterparts in recent times, but England international Eniola Aluko is hopeful the Women's FA Cup triumph can provide a springboard for more glory.

"The overwhelming emotion right now is just relief. I feel relieved," Aluko told BBC One. "It's been a long time coming."

Chelsea painfully finished runners-up on goal difference at the end of last season with Liverpool going on to lift the Super League trophy.

Aluko added: "Everyone knows the journey Chelsea have been on, coming so close last season. And everyone's talked about it - are Chelsea going to do it? How will they play under pressure? Well we certainly played under pressure [on Saturday].

"This is history in the making and hopefully we're going to push on from here and win many more trophies.

"I couldn't be more proud of this group of players. [Manager] Emma Hayes and her staff deserve everything. They work so hard and inspire us each and every day.

"I'm just grateful to God that we've done it. We've finally, finally done it. I can't believe it."

Hayes was delighted with her side's display and expressed her pride at securing the cup.

She reiterated Aluko's sentiments regarding more silverware in the future and said: "We're going to aspire towards more trophies.

"I've got a great dressing room. It isn't always about having the best players - we've got great characters and they fit the playing style and I hope they have a brilliant time [on Saturday night] because I'm so proud of them."
