Ealing boy Jermaine Beckford scored an audacious goal from just inside Chesterfield’s half to secure victory in Preston’s League One play-off semi final victory at the weekend.

The 31-year-old striker’s goal was the pick of the bunch as the Lilywhites defeated the Spireites 3-0 on the day and 4-0 on aggregate to see themselves into the League One play-off final at Wembley.

Beckford, who was born in Ealing, started his career in Chelsea’s youth team before being let go in 2003.

Upon his release, he signed for Isthmian Premier League side Wealdstone where he scored 54 goals in 82 appearances between 2003 and 2006.

Whilst there the striker spent time out on loan at Uxbridge in 2003-04, where he scored twice in eight appearances for the Reds.

A goal-filled 2005-06 season caught the attention of Yorkshire club Leeds United, and the Jamaican international signed for the Whites in March 2006 after scoring 35 goals in 40 games in a single season for Wealdstone.
