Willian is close to agreeing terms on a new contract with Chelsea as the Blues look to fend off interest from Manchester United.

The Brazil international was the club’s leading light last season as the winger was one of only a few players to come out of a poor campaign with any credit.

Former manager Jose Mourinho was understood to have earmarked Willian, along with fellow Chelsea star Nemanja Matic, as one of his top transfer targets this summer.

United were thought to be willing to shell out as much as £60million to take the 27-year-old this summer for a reunion with the Special One.

Willian has two years left to run on his current Chelsea contract and is now away on holiday following Brazil’s surprise early exit from the Copa America.

Antonio Conte’s side have made it clear to Manchester United that they will not entertain bids for one of their key players.

A fresh four-year deal which brings Willian in line with the club’s top earners has been put on the table, according to The Sun, and is close to being finalised.

Meanwhile, reports in Spain continue to link Diego Costa with a return to Atletico Madrid this summer.

Newspaper AS are claiming the striker no longer wants to remain in west London and is regularly on the phone to his old pals in the Spanish capital.

Atletico have £32million from the sale of Jackson Martinez to spend and the report suggests Costa is a big part of their summer transfer plans.

Costa’s compatriot, Alvaro Morata , is very much on Chelsea’s radar and could fill the void left by the Brazilian-born forward if he does jump ship.
