Brentford are interested in re-signing Wigan Athletic defender Rob Kiernan.

The former Watford centre-back made nine appearances for the Bees last season before his spell at Griffin Park was cut short because of injury.

Kiernan played 15 times for League Two Southend earlier this campaign, but was recalled by Latics chief Uwe Rosler a fortnight ago.

However, the German could do his old club a favour and loan Kiernan to the League One leaders to provide cover for Tony Craig and Harlee Dean.

Brentford boss Mark Warburton knows the Republic of Ireland Under 21 international well from his time working at Vicarage Road, and told the Chronicle on Thursday that he could have another defender signed up in time for Saturday's clash with Port Vale.
