Brentford, Fulham, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all reportedly chasing the signature of Barnsley midfielder Josh Scowen.

The 24-year-old is set to leave Oakwell after rejecting a new deal with the Yorkshire club and a host of Championship sides are keen on signing the midfielder.

The midfielder made 44 appearances for Barnsley last season, scoring on three occasions, as Paul Heckingbottom's side finished in 14th place.

Below, GetWestLondon takes a look at Scowen in more detail and the likelhood of the 24-year-old moving to the capital.

Who is Josh Scowen?

Yellow peril: Josh Scowen

Scowen came through the ranks at Wycombe Wanderers and made his debut in a 3-0 win over Morecambe in March 2011.

He helped the Chairboys make an excellent start to the 2014/15 campaign where they would lose to Southend in the play-off final before he moved to Barnsley in January.

Scowen helped lift the Yorkshire side up to the Championship the following season via the play-offs and the Yorkshire side finished in a respectable 14th place last season.

What is his playing style?

The midfielder does not lack any aggression, throwing himself into tackles and intercepting the ball off opponents.

Brentford and Fulham like to pass the ball and Scowen is definitely the right fit for both clubs. The 24-year-old has excellent balance and his control of the ball is exceptional.

What are the chances of him signing?

You would expect Brentford, given their limited budget in contrast to the other three clubs, to be outsiders in the chase but they would be able to offer a stronger guarantee of first team football. Scowen is reported to be wanting a contract in the range of £9,000 a week.

Fulham, too, would fancy their chances given their fine displays last season but they may be unwilling or unable to match the chequebooks that both Villa and Wolves have.

Steve Bruce's side would be favourites as Scowen would be linking up with Conor Hourihane and James Bree but Wolves have the spending power to rival them.
