Brentford co-director of football Rasmus Ankersen is working hard to try and bring players into the club as the transfer window enters its final 48 hours.

The Bees are in desperate need of fresh faces and Marco Djuricin is on the verge of being confirmed as a new face on a season-long loan.

The striker tweeted to suggest that the deal was done but the fine print of the deal is yet to be completed.

Ankersen told GetWestLondon : “It (a deal for Djuricin) is close. He was here against Reading and hopefully he'll be ready to join us soon.”

Brentford head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen lamented the fact that any English target's wage demands were far too high ahead of the 3-1 defeat to Reading.

While Ankersen agreed, the club may still be investing in recruits who know the English divisions, although he refused to comment over Shrewsbury's Ryan Woods, who has been heavily linked with the club.

He added: “The English market is obviously very inflated when you buy and sell so sometimes it makes sense to look outside of England.

“It doesn't mean we don't want English players. We're searching the market and if an English player is interesting we'll look it.”

Wants new faces: Marinus Dijkhuizen

Dijkhuizen wants four more players in the squad but Ankersen played down those hopes and suggested that only one more may be brought in before the September 1 deadline.

He added: “There's only a few days left on the window. We're working on it. We'll see what happens. It's been a bit hectic. We're taking a holistic view of the squad.

“I think we will bring at least one more player in. It's difficult to say. I don't want to give too much away then it's not much of a surprise for you guys. We'll see.”
