Hayes & Yeading are on the lookout for a new centre-half after allowing Charlie Wassmer to sign for Ryman Premier side Margate.

The Gate are investing heavily in talent under former Hayes boss Terry Brown and have handed former Crawley defender a two-year contract.

United will receive no money from the transfer as Wassmer was on non-contract terms at Kingfield.

Hayes legend: Terry Brown is now manager of Margate

Wassmer, along with goalkeeper Jamie Young, was branded a ‘disgrace’ by Hayes & Yeading assistant manager Tristan Lewis after the two tangled in Tuesdays defeat by Bath City.

Hayes & Yeading insist Wassmer’s departure has not come as a consequence of his involvement in the incident.

Margate boss Brown first came across Wassmer during his time as manager of AFC Wimbledon and has been a keen admirer of the defender for some time.
