Premier League football clubs spent more on transfers this summer than the BBC's Children in Need has raised in its entire history.

An estimated £842.7m was spent by the division''s 20 sides during the three month window according to figures taken from transferleague.co.uk and news reports.

That's over £100m more than the £740m raised by Children in Need which has been a mainstay on British TVs since 1980.

Across all divisions the total spent in the window stands at an estimated £948.1m, which is £99m short of the total raised by Comic Relief in it's entire history (£1.05bn).

Manchester City were this season's biggest spenders.

The capture of Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg pushed the club's spending to a staggering £157m this summer according to transferleague.co.uk.

That's almost £45m more than England's next biggest spenders, Manchester United, whose total transfer spending this summer stands at an estimated £112.2m.

Liverpool are third with an estimated £77.5m.

Chelsea are fourth on £65.8m followed by Tottenham (£53.5m), Aston Villa (£52.5m), Newcastle (£46.7m) , West Ham (£36m), Southampton (£35.2m) and West Brom (£32.5m).

Swansea were the lowest spenders in the Premier League with a total spend of £9.1m.

That's followed by Arsenal and Norwich (both £10m), Sunderland (£13m) and Everton (£18.8m).
