QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies has been linked with a move to Sunderland, according to reports online.

The Black Cats sold their number one goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to Everton earlier this summer, in a deal worth £30m, meaning the search is on for a new stopper.

New manager Simon Grayson's first choice appeared to be John Ruddy, who was recently released by Norwich City, however it appears that Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to sign the former England stopper.

It's thought that the former-Huddersfield Town boss may turn his attention to Hoops keeper Smithies.

Grayson once claimed that Smithies had the potential to represent England at Senior level, and so he may well come knocking as he looks to guide Sunderland back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
