Former QPR defender Clint Hill is being lined up for a move to Carlisle United, according to HITC.

The 38-year-old has been out of contact since leaving Scottish side Rangers at the end of last season, meaning he's currently a free agent.

Hill spent time in Cumbria training with Carlisle United earlier this summer, before confirming that he was training with QPR.

The defender featured for the Hoops' under-23s against Bolton Wanderers, a game which they won 5-0 against a side featuring former Arsenal and Real Madrid man Julio Baptista.

However the west London side confirmed on Friday that Hill would not be signing for the club, opening the door to a move to the League Two side.

According to reports, the Blues' boss Keith Curle, who was assistant manager at both QPR and Crystal Palace during Hill's spells at the respective clubs, is planning on making contact with the defender to discuss a move.

Speaking to the Carlisle News and Star, Curle said: "He was close to getting a deal at QPR but the deal didn’t suit both parties. I'll touch base with the lad.

"He's got very good qualities and understanding of the game, and is a good character - that's why the invitation was there [to train with us in the first place].

"I've known Clint a long time and know what he's about. If we're able to do something, if it suits both parties, we're still in there."
