Former Fulham man Ross McCormack is edging closer to securing a move away from Villa Park.

The Aston Villa forward is reported to be in advanced talks with recently-relegated side Sunderland over a season-long loan deal.

The Scotland international has reportedly been told by Steve Bruce that he is free to leave Aston Villa, paving the way for a move to Championship rivals Sunderland.

Talks are thought to be ongoing, with discussions over how his substantial wages will be structured between the two clubs.

Sunderland are keen to push through a move soon, with the intention of having McCormack available for their Championship opener with Derby on Friday night.
