Tony Craig has left Brentford and returned to Millwall after he and the club reached a deal to cancel the remaining two years on his contract.

It marks the third spell with the Lions for the popular defender, who is loved at The Den for his no-nonsense performances.

Craig made 127 appearances but had a nightmare home debut against Yeovil and was at fault for the Glovers' opener and scored an own goal in the dying minutes.

He overcame those difficulties to establish himself as a key component at Griffin Park as they were beaten in the play-off final.

The 2013/14 was Craig's best season in red and white stripes. He marshalled the defence superbly with his most memorable moment coming when Oldham had five strikers bearing down on him, yet Craig legally won the ball and started a counter attack.

With Kevin O'Connor dropping away from first-team consideration, Craig was the designated captain and was in charge as the Bees clinched promotion to the Championship, lifting the runners-up trophy with the club captain.

His form in the early part of the season was excellent and produced a fantastic performance in the 3-1 win over Bournemouth.

It turned out to be the 30-year-old's final appearance in red and white stripes with the Bees signing Yoann Barbet and Andreas Bjelland but he goes with the best wishes from co-director of football Phil Giles.

He said: "On behalf of everyone at Brentford, I'd like to thank Tony for everything he has done for Brentford over the last three years.

"He was a key part of the effort to establish Brentford as a Championship club.

"Although I personally didn't work with Tony for very long, I've heard several stories of how he went beyond the call of duty in order to play. He was a leader in the dressing room".

"The move to Millwall makes sense for all parties. We wish Tony every success at his new club and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Griffin Park in the future."
