QPR will have to beat off competition from Liverpool if they are to complete the signing of Steven Caulker.

Rangers are interested in the Cardiff City defender but face stiff competition for his services in the shape of the Anfield club.

The lure of working with Brendan Rodgers is strong for the City man, having worked with the northern Irishman at Swansea.

However, a report in The Mirror claims R’s manager Harry Redknapp is hopeful the prospect of playing with Rio Ferdinand will swing the move in favour of the west Londoners.

Ferdinand has agreed a deal in principle to sign for QPR and his arrival would help persuade Caulker to join the newly-promoted Premier League club.

Meanwhile, QPR are also lining up a move for Nottingham Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles as they keep their options open in the event Caulker should decide to shun their interest.
