Middlesbrough have failed with a £6million bid for QPR winger Matt Phillips.

Aitor Karanka is looking to add to his Boro squad as the club guns for promotion to the Premier League.

Midfielder Phillips has been a key figure at Loftus Road again this season and has scored five goals in 24 outings for the Hoops so far.

Rangers are willing to do business with clubs for Phillips but only at the right price, with Boro’s bid deemed too low by R’s chiefs.

Meanwhile, Rangers are set to welcome Matt Ingram to the club after agreeing a deal with Wycombe Wanderers for the highly-rated goalkeeper.

Rob Green looks set to leave the club this January and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink thinks rising star Ingram is the man to fill the void between the sticks.

Ingram is expected to go a medical with the Championship club on Friday afternoon as the loose ends of the deal are tied up.
