Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy is set to complete his transfer to QPR today.

The goalkeeper said his goodbyes to the Royals yesterday before travelling to Loftus Road for contract talks and a medical last night.

Reading have accepted Rangers’ £3million bid for the player and boss Nigel Adkins says the 24-year-old goes with his blessing.

Wishing him well: Nigel Adkins

"It's now down to the player to sort things out,” Adkins revealed yesterday.

"He trained with us this morning and now he's on his way to QPR to finalise things.

"The deal has been done. It's acceptable to the football club and we wish him well."

"We like Alex here. We've got great aspirations for him and we want him to be in the England set up.

“For him to do that, being in the Premier League is going to be more advantageous for him."

He will follow Liverpool defender Jack Robinson in putting pen to paper at QPR after the full-back agreed a switch from Anfield last night.
