QPR would very much like Watford defender Gabriele Angella to do for them what he did for the Hornets last term.

The 26 year-old Italian, who has agreed a loan deal until the end of the season, featured 36 times for Watford as they soared to the Premier League.

Rs director of football Les Ferdinand reckons if Angella can use his head when all around are losing theirs, they too might bounce back at the first attempt.

The 6ft 3ins central defender who will wear the number 26 shirt (see above) is the planned threat from corners and free-kicks that has seen Rangers push the boat out for a player once valued €3 million as part of a joint deal.

Ferdinand told the club’s website: “We’ve been keen to add another defender to the group for some time, so we’re really pleased to bring Gabriele in.

Delighted: Les Ferdinand

“He’s not only a very good defender, but importantly, he’s also a big threat at set-pieces, and the more goalscorers we’ve got around the team, the better.

“We’re pleased to have him on board and we’re really looking forward to integrating him into the squad.”

Head Coach, Chris Ramsey, likewise welcomed the arrival of the former Italy Under-21 international.

“Gabriele’s a quality addition for us,” he said.

“We’ve got decent competition now in the back four and Gabriele’s experience, especially at a level where he was promoted with Watford last season, will be a big positive for us."
