QPR boss Harry Redknapp is confident of fending off competition from Premier League rivals Burnley and Leicester to land Watford star Troy Deeney.

The R's have already snapped up defenders Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker and the Loftus Road chief wants six more signings as he rebuilds his squad following promotion back to the Premier League, with a new frontman top of his list.

Redknapp has earmarked £8million-rated Deeney, who smashed 24 goals in the Championship last season, as his No.1 target and will continue his pursuit of the 26-year-old, despite Loic Remy's move to Liverpool collapsing on Sunday.

“He’s a player that interests me," said Redknapp, whose bid to sign Kolbeinn Sigthorsson has stalled due to the Ajax striker's wage demands.

"The chairman [Tony Fernandes] has been talking to Watford but I think there’s one or two other clubs bidding as well.

"I think Burnley came and made an offer and Leicester too, so we’ll have to wait and see with that one."
