QPR only have the budget to keep hold of one of the high earners - but not the current three still on the books.

The departure of Leroy Fer to Swansea will free up £35,000 a week in Rangers' wage budget; saving them approximately £2million a year.

And the imminent £5.5m sale of Matt Phillips to WBA makes another sizeable £25K-a-week dent in the Rs outlay.

However, the need to offload £40k-a-week Sandro is still a pressing matter - especially after the ex-Tottenham midfielder failed a medical at Sporting Lisbon last month.

Nedum Onuoha is also thought to be on a reasonable deal as well that may stymie the hope of keeping defender Steven Caulker - another of the players on Premier League earnings for a club in the Championship.

Rangers head coach Hasselbaink knows he has to make some hard decisions.

He said: “We can't keep on sustaining those kind of wages – maybe for one but not for four, five.”

QPR have allowed some of the club's higher earners to leave the club, notably Rob Green who they froze out of the starting XI as he was getting close to triggering a year's extension which Rangers did not want to see happen for financial reasons.
