Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori has joined Championship Brighton on loan until the end of the season.

The promising 19-year-old, who can play at centre back or right back, made his debut for the first team in the final game of last season, where he starred in the 1-1 draw with champions Leicester City.

So far this season, Tomori has featured for Chelsea's U23 development side in the Premier League 2 and has helped the young Blues side win back-to-back FA Youth Cups and successive UEFA Youth Leagues in 2015 and 16.

Brighton currently lie second in the Championship, one point behind leaders Newcastle and manager Chris Hughton told the club's official website: "We have brought in Fikayo on loan from Chelsea to provide us with some additional cover in the full-back positions, and we are delighted to welcome him to the club.

"He is a highly-rated young full-back, by both Chelsea and England; he is predominantly a right-back, but he can play in any position across the back four, and will give us good defensive cover for the first-team for the second half of the season.

"Currently we have a few minor injury issues in the full-back positions, so his arrival will also allow us to send Rob Hunt out on loan to gain valuable playing experience; at this stage of Rob's development, it will benefit his long-term progression to be playing regular senior football."

Meanwhile, Chelsea's FA Youth Cup game with Sheffield Wednesday has been rearranged for Wednesday February 1 after the original tie, which was scheduled for January 23, was postponed as a result of a frozen pitch at Aldershot Town's EBB Stadium.
