Portsmouth manager Paul Cook has invited AFC Wimbledon to make their move for Matt Tubbs this January.

Neal Ardley is a huge fan of the former Bournemouth striker and this week revealed he could move for the 31-year-old if the price is right.

Tubbs starred for the Dons on loan last season but his goalscoring heroics attracted the attention of Pompey and the striker headed for Fratton Park midway through the season.

He has fallen down the pecking order on the south coast this term though and Cook previously admitted he couldn’t promise Tubbs first-team football with the League Two promotion hopefuls.

Ardley already has four strikers on the books at Kingsmeadow and acknowledged budget restrictions would make it difficult to re-sign the prolific poacher.

Pompey boss Cook told the Portsmouth News: “Wimbledon have a lot to say, so maybe people should be asking them what they want to do about Matt Tubbs.”

Tubbs banged in 15 goals in 30 appearances for the Dons during his previous spell with the club before signing a two-and-a-half-year deal with Portsmouth in January 2015 following his release by the Cherries.
