Brentford are hoping that Harlee Dean and Sam Saunders agree new contracts with the club, with their deals expiring in the summer.

Dean has previously intimated that he expects to leave the club but, with the departure of James Tarkowski, the Bees are trying to tie the 24-year-old down to a fresh contract.

And Brentford co-director of football Phil Giles is hoping there will be a positive outcome in the coming weeks as he looks to get everything in place for the summer transfer window as quickly as possible.

He said: “We're speaking to him and his agent and we'd like to keep him if we can. It comes down to the economics and making sure it works for both parties.

“Hopefully we can find a positive outcome. I'm dealing with his agent and he's playing a pretty straight bat.

“It's not certain that he'll stay or leave. It's not been decided either way. I'd like to think we'll know which way it's going to go.

“If he's going, we need to replace him. If he's staying, we can focus on other areas.”

Keen to stay: Sam Saunders

Saunders revealed to GetWestLondon last week that he has had offers from America but Giles is keen to keep him at the club.

He added: “We'd like him to stay as well if possible. There is some interest in him from America.

“Either way, we want to support him as he's been important part for Brentford for so long. We want to do the right thing for him.

“Certainly since I've been here I'd like to think we resolve these situations pretty well to look after the players. Hopefully we will get that sorted out in the next few days, one way or the other.”

Alan McCormack is also out of contract at the end of the season but could trigger a one-year extension if he plays a certain amount of games.

Nearing extension: Alan McCormack

Giles explained: “He's close to the magic number where he gets a new deal. He was playing every game earlier in the season and was becoming an important player for us. We'll keep an eye on that one.”

Alan Judge was the subject of January speculation after his impressive six months and Giles is keen for the Irishman to pen a new deal as long as it is right for all parties.

He said: “It's similar to Toumani in that Alan's contract is the big one for his career. Given the way he's been playing and his age, he's got to get that right.

“If Brentford were to give him that contract it's got to be right for us economically. We'd love to keep him long-term and we'll have conversations to get something sorted.”

In goal: David Button

David Button and Jake Bidwell see their contracts expire in 2017 and work is already taking place on tying them to the club for longer.

Giles explained: “Talks are progressing. Both of those players are key for us. Button is a top goalkeeper and Jake is our captain and the same applies.

“We haven't got anything agreed with them but I'd like to think we'll know which way it's going.

“There's plenty of factors at play in terms of they need the right package financially. They also want to know Brentford is going in the right direction, that there's a plan in place to invest the funds in the team and get stronger.

“They don't want to be sitting in the Championship for the rest of their careers.”
