Speculation is rife that Chelsea could take their pursuit of Juventus star Paul Pogba right up to the close of the transfer window.

Jose Mourinho is expected to tie up a deal for John Stones after the Everton defender told the Goodison Park club he wants to leave and the Independent claims Pogba could join him in west London.

The Premier League champions have made a poor start to the defence of their crown and Roman Abramovich is believed to have sanctioned a spending spree to try and correct the slide.

Chelsea have been in communication with Juventus over winger Juan Cuadrado and the Colombian yesterday completed his season-long switch to the Italian champions.

Blues have reportedly had an opening offer of £55million turned down for Pogba and this latest report suggest Mourinho won’t give up on the French midfielder easily.

A value of £70million, which would break the club’s transfer record, has been placed on his head by the newspaper but it is understood Abramovich is reluctant to spend that much on the 22-year-old.
