Brentford midfielder Alan Judge is travelling to Newcastle for talks over joining the Magpies as well as a possible medical, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

The Irishman was the Bees' player of the season by a distance last year and was tipped for a Euro 2016 call-up after scoring 14 goals in 39 games last season as well as contributing 13 assists.

He was also named the second best player in the Championship after Andre Gray at the Football League Awards and was in the team of the season.

However, Judge suffered a horrific broken leg after a shocking challenge from Ipswich midfielder Luke Hyam to dash his international dreams in April.

The 27-year-old had the screws taken out of his leg on August 15 and will be stepping up his recovery, with October believed to be the earliest he could make a return.

The injury had been thought to have ended his chances of a move this summer but the Magpies are taking a gamble on him returning to full fitness and finding the form of last season.

Players can still pass medicals with pre-existing injuries as Wayne Rooney successfully completed his at Manchester United, despite suffering a broken foot at Euro 2004. He made his debut

The Bees have struggled to bring in players this summer, given their strict wage structure in accordance with Financial Fair Play, and the sale of Judge, who would have left for nothing in 2017, will allow them more flexibility in the final eight days of the transfer window.
