Brentford boss Mark Warburton has played down Brentford's chances of re-signing Conor McAleny on loan.

The Everton forward was a target for the Bees and Championship rivals Wigan this summer with his contract at Goodison Park running out.

However, McAleny, whose spell at Griffin Park was cut short last season due to injury, pledged his future to the Toffees and penned a new three-year deal.

The 21-year-old has been told he is a big part of Roberto Martinez's plans at the Premier League club, and with European football now to juggle, Warburton admits it's unlikely the forward will be returning to west London any time soon.

He said: "Conor is a someone that myself and others like. But he's an Everton player and they will want to make sure they are well covered with their Europa League situation."

Brentford, who missed out on the signing of Marvin Sordell this week, have been linked with a move for Monaco frontman Gaetano Monachello.
