Middlesbrough will make an increased bid for Ross McCormack as they hope to test Fulham's resolve to hang on to their star man.
A £9million bid has been touted, while an £8m package that includes Boro striker Kike as a makeweight in the deal has also been suggested.
The 29-year-old is reportedly interested in speaking to the Championship leaders as he eyes a chance of playing Premier League football, with Fulham 17 points adrift of a play-off spot.
Boro are desperate to increase their goal threat in this month’s window as they have scored the least of any side in the top four spots.
They are hoping that McCormack, who has scored 17 times, as well as setting up six more goals, will be able to change their fortunes.
An initial inquiry from Boro has been knocked back by Fulham chairman Shahid Khan, whose club are under a transfer embargo and cannot make any permanent signings in the mid-season window, meaning they will be reluctant to let their talisman leave.
But McCormack, who has captained Fulham for most of the season in Scott Parker's absence, could be ending his 18-month association with the club after joining from Leeds.
Dan Burn believes the club must keep hold of their main striker in this transfer window, praising the work he does off the pitch.
