Garry Monk is confident that Middlesbrough will be able to strengthen their squad, despite Brentford rejecting a £4.5million bid for Jota.

The Bees have rejected two offers for the wing wizard and Dean Smith was unequivocal when he said the club would hold out for their valuation.

Monk, though, kept his cards close to his chest when asked at his pre-match press conference about incomings.

“We’ve done the bulk of our work, but we still have one or two things we want to do and we’re hopeful we’ll do them,” said Monk. “I think we’ve had a successful window – we’ve brought money in and moved players out as well as recruiting new players.

“We’ve been linked with thousands of names through pre-season, but that’s quite normal. It’s all in hand with the club. There are a couple of positions we want to try to strengthen the club with.”

The transfer window closes at 11pm on August 31 and Wolves and West Ham are also said to be keen on the winger.
