Michy Batshuayi believes he is joining a Chelsea side on the up after signing a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have paid £33million to recruit the Belgian international from Marseille after he banged in 17 goals in Ligue 1 last season.

Batshuayi had been linked with London rivals Crystal Palace, West Ham and Italian giants Juventus.

But having consulted with his international team-mates, Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard, the powerful forward is confident he has made the right choice.

He said: "I am delighted to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and embark on the next chapter in my career.

"I hope I can help Chelsea win many trophies during my time at Stamford Bridge.

"Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have told me many good things about the club, and with Antonio Conte coming in it's an exciting time to become a Chelsea player.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family, I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League next season."

On Saturday Batshuayi took to Twitter to confirm that his departure from Marseille was set to be announced but did not reveal where he was going to end up.

In a letter to the fans, he wrote: "It will be made official tomorrow, I will be leaving Olympique Marseille this summer."

The 22-year-old's move to the Premier League comes just two days after Belgium's shock exit from Euro 2016 at the hands of Wales.

Batshuayi continued: "Above all, I particularly want to thank all the supporters of OM: during my two years with the club I have loved since I was young, you have shown me your affection and support.
