Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink is keen to see more of Loic Remy as he weighs up a move for a new striker this January.

Diego Costa has shaken off a knee problem to take his place in the squad for tonight’s visit of West Brom but the Blues have major injury concerns up front.

Radamel Falcao remains sidelined for the foreseeable future and parent club Monaco have ruled out recalling him from his loan spell due to his fitness issues.

The only other senior striker on the books at the Bridge is Remy, who had been struggling with a calf problem, but has seen game-time limited in west London.

There is a lengthy queue of Premier League sides looking to take the Frenchman for the second half of the campaign.

However, Hiddink plans to hold onto the player for now as he continues to evaluate the Blues squad he inherited from sacked Jose Mourinho.

He said: "At this moment, no. He will stay until the end of the season.

No date for a return: Radamel Falcao

"I’m curious. With this multitude of games I hope Remy picks it up. Although he was only in training this week I hope he will deliver if he is needed.

“We have Costa and him, so I hope they stay fit. That's why I hope he can make his next step and get even more fit.

"We must not go into this danger if something happens with one or two striker.”

The Chelsea chief has been linked with a move for Baggies striker Saido Berahino as well Shakhtar Donetsk’s Alex Teixeira.

He added: "The window opens and the mouth shuts so we don't have interest in this moment.

"We are thinking. When you think, you don't speak normally.

"If, suppose something is going on, it can be harmful when you go public."

Patrick Bamford is another name to throw into the mix after he cut his loan spell at Crystal Palace short and returned to Stamford Bridge this winter.

Hiddink is reluctant to throw him straight in at the deep end though and wants to monitor his progress in some U21s fixtures before declaring him ready for first-team action.

He concluded: "I didn't have the opportunity to see him much in the Palace games on video.

"He hardly played at Palace so that's why he has to prove himself first of all with the Under-21s.

"To make a step because he didn't play so much over there, so prove yourself and then we'll see what can happen.”
