The transfer window slammed shut at 11pm on Monday night and some players were delighted to have secured their dream moves on deadline day.

Stoke fans were thrilled when the club smashed their record transfer fee to snare Giannelli Imbula from Porto while a relieved Jordan Rhodes finally secured his complex move to Championship high fliers Middlesbrough.

But what about those players who were desperately trying to push through a deal that never materialised?

We spare a thought for ten footballers counting down the days until the summer transfer window as they find themselves out in the cold and in footballing limbo, courtesy of our pals at Mirror Online.

Saido Berahino

Saido Berahino

History repeated itself for the talented striker, who had his dreams of an exit from West Brom dashed for the second straight window.

Tottenham failed to follow up their summer interest which left the path clear for Newcastle and Stoke, who discussed bids of more than £24million.

But West Brom stayed firm and rejected the offers. Now, Berahino will have to wait until the summer, when his contract enters its final 12 months.

Loic Remy

Staying put: No Leicester loan for Remy

Remy’s chances of getting into France’s Euro 2016 squad look bleak now he is stuck at Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman may also have slipped to third in Chelsea ’s pecking order after Alexandre Pato arrived on loan .

Title-chasing Leicester tried to get the striker on loan on Deadline Day, but the Blues called it off with only a few of hours to go.

The 29-year-old has started just four games all season, and that is unlikely to increase too much between now and May.

Dwight Gayle

New deal: Gayle signed a contract but is likely to leave in the summer

Gayle almost signed for Bristol City last summer, and after featuring in just 10 games this season it seemed inevitable he would be sold in January.

Leicester and Swansea made moves for the 26-year-old but Alan Pardew surprisingly chose to hold on, despite signing Emmanuel Adebayor.

The striker even penned a new contract at Selhurst Park, but his future is still likely to be uncertain come the summer.

Ezequiel Lavezzi

Free transfer: Contract up for Lavezzi

The Argentine international is out of contract with PSG this summer, but a winter move to the Premier League failed to come off.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea were all linked with a deal for the 30-year-old, who has started just three Ligue 1 games all season and scored three times.

Lavezzi is able to speak to foreign teams and agree a summer transfer before the end of the season, so a move to England could still happen.

The pacey forward would make a big difference to a number of teams, so it is a surprise they all missed a trick.

Peter Crouch

Benchwarmer: Crouch set for loan deal

The arrivals of Joselu and Xherdan Shaqiri have pushed Crouch down the Stoke pecking order.

Reports suggested the striker could have left in January, but it now looks more likely that he'll go on loan for the time being.

Either way, Crouch's time at the Britannia appears to be almost up.

Moussa Dembele

Moussa Dembele: Holding on for summer

Part of the reason Spurs didn’t move for Saido Berahino was that they thought they had a new striker in the bag.

But their deal for exciting Fulham forward Moussa Dembele fell through on Deadline Day, after the Londoners refused to loan him back until the summer.

Dembele is out of contract at Craven Cottage at the end of the season, so the chase is not yet over for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the likes of Monaco and Lyon have also been linked with the talented Frenchman, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions so far.

Bafetimbi Gomis

Bafetimbi Gomis: Still a swan

Despite being Swansea’s first-choice striker, Bafetimbi Gomis was heavily linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium last month.

Newcastle and Sunderland both made enquiries, but the South Wales club refused to sanction a deal to a relegation rival.

Gomis has been on their radar before, and a summer deal is not out of the question.

Jerome Sinclair

Jerome Sinclair: Stuck in the middle

Sinclair is tipped for a bright future, but he has made it clear he doesn’t want to spend it under Jurgen Klopp’s tutelage at Liverpool.

The 19-year-old striker is out of contract this summer and is keen to get away to play more regularly, with Watford leading the chase.

The Hornets’ bid of £3m failed to make the grade, meaning he will leave on a free transfer this summer.

Gabriel Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor: Dubai bound?

With Aston Villa seemingly heading down and their wage bill in need of trimming, Agbonlahor was expected to be sold last month.

He has featured just once since early December and a move to Turkish side Kayserispor looked on the cards for the ex-England international.

And Villa also offered him an escape route to Dubai's Al Ahli, but the move was never sealed.

If Garde stays in charge, Agbonlahor will likely be on his way in July.

Jose Enrique

Jose Enrique: Held back at Anfield

The forgotten Liverpool defender made a shock return to a patched-up Reds team to face Exeter in the FA Cup.

The left-back was subsequently linked with a move back to Newcastle, who Liverpool bought him from in 2011, but the deal stalled on Deadline Day over his contract demands.

With Alberto Moreno, Jon Flanagan and Brad Smith ahead of him in the pecking order, it is unlikely he will play again this season.
