Liverpool are eyeing a loan move for QPR’s Steven Caulker in a bid to ease the defensive injury crisis at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp was forced to pick a starting XI with no senior centre halves for Friday night’s trip to Exeter City.

Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Touré are all sidelined and the German is desperate to bring in reinforcements this month.

Touré and Sakho are expected to be fit for Arsenal’s visit to Anfield on Wednesday but the Liverpool manager clearly needs more experienced cover.

Caulker is seen as a solution and Liverpool are believed to have made an enquiry to the Hoops about the possibility of taking the England international on loan.

The 24-year-old has spent the first half of the campaign with Southampton but has fallen down the pecking order under Ronald Koeman and the deal could be terminated.

Koeman has publicly stated his desire to hang onto the powerful central defender but the Hoops may decide to pursue interest from the Merseysiders in a bid to get the player more game-time.

Caulker's most recent appearance for Southampton was in the 6-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Capital One Cup.
