QPR are closing in on a deal to bring Burton striker Nasser El Khayati to the club, as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink raids his former club.

The 26-year-old missed the Brewers' defeat to Rochdale on Saturday due to the two parties nearing completion over a deal.

El Khayati joined Burton in January last year, signed by Rangers boss Hasselbaink, and scored 11 goals in 44 appearances for the club.

A statement on the Burton official website read: “Burton Albion striker Nasser El Khayati is in talks with Championship QPR after the two clubs agreed a fee for the 26-year-old.

The eyes have it: Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

“If the player agrees personal terms he will be reunited with former Brewers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who brought him to the Pirelli Stadium in January 2015.

“El Khayati did not feature in today's Albion game at Rochdale as the transfer negotiations progressed.”

El Khayati started his career at FC Den Bosche before moving on to NAC Breda and Olympiakos Nicosia.

He had a successful spell at Kozakken Boys, who play in the highest tier of amateur football in Holland, which put him on Hasselbaink's radar at Burton.
