Frustated Hayes & Yeading United are looking for compensation after goalkeeper Dan Lincoln left the club.

The former Reading youngster signed a contract with the Beaconsfield Road club after impressing on trial in pre-season.

He quickly became first-choice between the sticks and was an ever-present for the National League South side this term.

His deal expired on January 10, but manager Garry Haylock had been keen to retain the services of the 20-year-old and offered him fresh terms. That offer was rejected by the player and his departure followed at the weekend ahead of United’s postponed trip to the south coast to face Whitehawk.

“It is with regret that we announce that Dan Lincoln has left the club,” read a Hayes & Yeading United statement.

“His contract expired on January 10 and despite an offer that would have made him the highest paid player at the club he has chosen to leave.

“We believe that Dan has already agreed terms with another National League South team.

“Hayes & Yeading United would like to thank Dan for his efforts in the club shirt this season and feel that his performances have made him one of the best and most sought after goalkeepers in the League.

“As Dan was under contract and was offered improved terms, we will be seeking compensation either in agreement with the club he signs for or through the tribunal system.”

Saturday’s postponement at Whitehawk, which was only confirmed less than two hours before-kick off and left travelling fans furious, means United are incredibly still waiting to play their first game of 2016.

Their next opportunity to return to the field comes this weekend at York Road when Hemel Hempstead come to town for a league clash.

It offers Lincoln’s replacement, Charlie Burns, the chance to make his Hayes & Yeading debut in goal after signing on a short-term loan from SkyBet Championship side MK Dons.

Burns came through the MK Dons youth system and made his first-team debut in May 2014 as a substitute against Leyton Orient. He spent time at Cambridge City and Truro last season.

Elsewhere, Southern League side Northwood also had a postponement at the weekend as their trip to Barton Rovers bit the dust. Uxbridge did play at Potters Bar but they were beaten 3-1.

His deal expired on January 10, but manager Garry Haylock had been keen to retain the services of the 20-year-old and offered him fresh terms. AFC Hayes shipped five second-half goals to lose 5-0 to Hanworth Villa at Rectory Meadow in a Combine Counties Premier Division clash.
