Fulham have encountered stubborn resistance in their attempts to sign Costa Rica international Giancarlo Gonzalez.

The 26-year-old starred for Los Ticos in this summer’s World Cup as their hard-working style earned them rave reviews and a journey to the quarter-finals in Brazil.

Gonzalez was integral to that success, playing every minute of the tournament for his side, and Whites boss Felix Magath was one of a number of managers to register an interest.

In the market: Fulham manager Felix Magath

Sky Sports are reporting that Magath followed up that interest and has seen two bids knocked back for the Columbus Crew defender.

The MLS club are willing to do business but are holding out for a higher fee after seeing their prize-asset’s market value increase since his World Cup showing.

Fulham are short of central defensive options at the back following the departures of Brede Hangeland and Aaron Hughes.
