Fulham have sold Maarten Stekelenburg to Everton for an undisclosed fee.

The Dutch goalkeeper becomes Ronald Koeman's first summer signing after the pair worked together at Southampton.

The stopper was frozen out by Felix Magath during his tumultuous reign at Craven Cottage and has had loan spells at the Saints and Monaco.

A two-line statement on the Fulham official website read: “The club can confirm that Maarten Stekelenburg has joined Everton on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

“We'd like to wish Maarten the best of luck at Goodison Park and throughout his career.”

Stekelenburg was, naturally, delighted after completing his move to the Toffees.

“I’m very happy - things have moved very fast over the last couple days,” Stekelenburg told evertontv.

“He [Koeman] has come to Everton and he called me a few days after asking if I was willing to follow him. It wasn’t difficult to make that choice.

“He’s one of the best coaches - he’s straight talking, he’s fair and he has confidence in me which counts as well.

“I’ve been here [in England] for a couple of seasons and I love the Premier League. It’s fantastic that I can stay.”
