Fulham are confident of fending off competition from West Ham and Stoke City to re-sign Clint Dempsey on loan in January.
The USA star scored 60 goals during five years with the Cottagers before his switch to Spurs in 2012, only to leave White Hart Lane for Seattle Sounders less than 12 months later.
However, Dempsey is available on a short-term deal during the MLS off-season and Rene Meulensteen could swoop to bring the 30-year-old back to SW6.
Asked about his January plans, the Dutchman said: "You need to look to the short term, what can we do now to make sure Fulham keeps its Premier League status."
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is desperate to add to his firepower in January after seeing his struggling side manage just 13 goals in 16 games.
Stoke chief Mark Hughes, who worked with Dempsey during their time together at Fulham, is also weighing up a move.
