Brentford have agreed a one-year deal with former QPR and Cardiff City forward Tommy Smith.

The 34-year-old has been on trial at Griffin Park after leaving the Bluebirds at the end of last season.

Smith impressed as a second-half substitute in Saturday's pre-season friendly win over Crystal Palace and has done enough to convince boss Mark Warburton to hand him a one-year contract at Griffin Park.

Warburton, who is also set to add another striker to his ranks, said: “I am delighted that the period Tommy spent training with us has come to a successful conclusion.

“We always knew Tommy would add value on and off the pitch. He needed to find fitness after a season without much football at Cardiff.

“Tommy will bring a level of experience to the squad. I am sure he will make a valuable contribution over the season ahead.”
