Exiled Brentford midfielder Jonathan Douglas is undergoing a medical with Ipswich ahead of a permanent move.

The Irishman was told he was surplus to requirements by head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen after falling out with members of the club's hierarchy.

The midfielder was at the training ground in early June at the same time as the new boss but insisted he never spoke to Dijkhuizen, despite the Dutchman saying he had held a conversation with him.

In recent weeks, Douglas has been training with the under-21s after being told to keep away from the first-team squad.

The 33-year-old joined Brentford in 2011 and was one of Uwe Rosler's first signings. He established himself as the club's third choice captain, behind Tony Craig and Kevin O'Connor.

Last season was his most productive in front of goal, finding the net on eight occasions.
